I am Pooja, a developmental editor, writer, and organizer based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
As an editor, I’ve worked for McGill-Queen’s University Press, Social Text, the Yale Center for British Art, and Yale University’s Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning. I have a keen eye for detail, and experience copyediting, proofreading, coordinating peer review, and helping authors prepare their manuscripts for production by securing image copyright and use permissions. As a developmental editor, I support scholars working on politically-engaged topics in art history, media studies, cultural studies, cultural anthropology, and ethnic studies. I work with writers through one-on-one consultations to help them to combine their original ideas with polished, stylish prose.
In addition to editing, I curate public screenings of films, and program and lead symposia on contemporary art. I’ve also taken off-book forays into native gardening, hand embroidery, indigo dyeing, and functional mobility and bodywork. Within my community in Cambridge, I am committed to immigrant justice and anti-genocide and anti-imperialist organizing.
I was trained as a cultural theorist and historian of modern and contemporary art. I hold a Ph.D. in History of Art and Film and Media Studies from Yale University, and was previously a postdoctoral fellow at the Mahindra Humanities Center at Harvard University. You can find my own writing here.
